Climate-induced Genocide? Perhaps this is the answer to my dream?

Maybe it’s my age, or perhaps its the inclement weather?

Whatever, something is making me much, much more sensitive about the environment that I would normally be, especially relating to climate.

Whilst our politicians and leaders (quite understandably) seem to be focused exclusively on addressing the economic downturn that we are facing, it does make one worry a little about our attitude towards the environment and the whole ‘green’ issue.

It’s certainly the case that getting older puts you in touch with your own mortality as you begin to reflect on just how much you - and the world around you - has changed, and is changing, but recently I have been thinking a lot more about the fact that, at some stage in the near future, we may find that we have passed the point of no return with global warming.

When I was much younger (in my early teens) I used to have a recurring and vivid dream about being in a plush apartment somewhere in this great city, high-up over a scene that was primarily water. Whenever, in this dream, I ventured near the window, I was struck by two things:

A powerful, bright sun that seemed to shine with such force that it discouraged me from standing near the window and the fact that as far as the eye could see, there was water. Everywhere.

More disturbing was that the water was still and calm apart from the off human corpse that would float into view.

The first few times that I had this dream, I would wake suddenly whenever a body came into view, but eventually I was able to continue into this dream and realised that some sort of disaster or calamity had occurred and that I was a ’survivor’ after some great and tragic event. In the distance, I could here loud noises, like explosions or gunfire, and I got the impression that the ‘authorities’ were still in control as there were aeroplanes flying and something being transmitted on television.

I had a fanciful imagination as a child, and put these dreams out of my mind until today when I watch an incredible video that was shared on Facebook by Andy Hobsbawm, one of the great minds behind “Do The Green Thing”

Wake Up, Freak Out – then Get a Grip

This video is a must watch for anyone who is vaguely aware of the environmental issues that we are facing, who doesn’t fully appreciate just how important it is that we do something address them NOW.

Not only does it outline the arguments clearly and compellingly, but it is beautifully produced.

Watch this now!
